... in the health care system you may in some cases be entitled to compensation from the
Patient Insurance LÖF.
If you suffer an injury while in the health care system, you may in some cases be entitled to financial compensation under the Patient Injury Act. For patients in the public health and dental care system, the injury must be evaluated by the Patient Insurance LÖF via your county council.
Some 10 000 injuries are reported to the regions patient injury insurance each year; about 45% of them are compensated. If a patient does not receive compensation, the reason is usually that the injury was unavoidable.
You are not entitled to compensation simply because the treatment does not lead to the desired result, or because a complication arises. All medical treatment involves a risk, whether great or small, of unavoidable complications.
An injury must be reported within three years from the date you became aware that you could make a claim, but never more than ten years from the date when the injury was caused.
County Council patients are insured by Patientförsäkringen LÖF (The Patient Insurance LÖF).
